Summer Plans - Your Story Pt.2

Students at Akins High School are ready for summer! The year has gone by extremely fast & is almost over. Summer plans are important. No one wants to be stuck at home while they can be exploring & having fun with family & friends.
From babysitting to sports, Akins students tell what their plans are for summer 2010.
“My plans for the summer involve playing softball. It occupies most of my time,” Freshman Amanda Alanis said.
Many students at Akins are athletic, but a lot of them also have responsibilities. These responsibilities include babysitting, cleaning the house, and some students have jobs.
“With all the brothers & sisters I have, I know I’m going to have to babysit,” Sophomore Virginia Hernandez said.
Once those responsibilities are handled, it’s time for fun! Students enjoy going to many different places during the summer. When asked what their favorite water parks & theme parks were the answers were Schlitterbahn & Six Flags.
“I love the heat & being outdoors during the summer. There’s a lot to do like going to theme parks & water parks,” Sophomore Virginia Hernandez said.
Although some people don’t like road trips because of the sitting involved, the activities to do once you get to your destination are always new & exciting.
“The best vacation spot is definitely South Padre Island. It’s so pretty,” Sophomore Virginia Hernandez said.
Most of the time, students have no rides so they end up stuck at home until their parents can take them somewhere. How often do you stay at home?
“I’m only inside my house on weekdays because of my parents,” Sophomore Virginia Hernandez said.

5 Ws & The How

Oscar's: Many actors & actresses attended & recieved awards at the Oscar's on Sunday night. This award's show was exciting for many & honored those who won awards & the previous winners who made a path or set an example for others.

49ers: David Carr just recently signed a 2 year contract with the 49ers. This was official one day after he left the team's headquarters in Santa Clara. By doing this, he is providing the team with a veteran quarterback. This decision affects the whole team. As Willis said on his Twitter account, "I will embrace him and we will win together. And with that being said I just want to win."

How much does it cost? How many people does this affect? How do you feel about this?

Cover History

1. Early Magazine Covers

Many of the early magazine covers had the magazine name & the table of contents on the front. Later the covers became similar to the covers of books. They contained the title & publication date. There was no words on the cover to describe what you would find in the book. On the cover, the picture provided was to show the purpose of the magazine & not to show the contents.

2. The Poster Cover

The Poster Cover on magazines created memories, artistic view, & images that were fun to view. The covers of these huge magazines looked as if they were ready to be framed & hung on someone's wall.

Tips On The Portrait

Looking Off Camera - Playing With Eye Contact : have your subject focus their attention on something unseen and outside the field of view of your camera.
Play With The Background : The person in your portrait is the main point of interest – however sometimes when you place them into different contexts with different backgrounds you can dramatically alter the mood in a shot.
Experiment With Subject Expressions : In some portraits it is the expression on the face of your subject that makes the image.
Fill The Frame : Fill It With Something That Catches The Eye.

iWant To Shoot My Cousin In Front Of Some Sort Of Mural, So Tht It Looks Like She's One Of The People In Tht Mural. iWant To Make It Look Something Like Where's Waldo. She Going To Blend In ,So The Picture Needs To Be Interesting & Make People Really Focus & Look For My Cousin.

Portraits & Self Portraits.*

Creativity Makes A Good Picturre. The More Unusual Or Uniquee A Picture Is Helps Make It Appealing Or Fun To Look At. Making It Difficult To Find The Main Subject Witthout Having To Much Going On Is What I'm Going To Try To Do For The Portrait Project. I Think I'm Going To Find Some Kind Of Mural & Put A Person In It To Blend In With What's Going On In The Mural.

Holiday Breakk Questions*

1. What was your most favorite memory of your holiday break?
My favorite memory from the holiday break was taking my 6 yr old cousin, Isabella, to the movies to see a Christmas Carol.

2. Did you go anywhere or do anything fun? If you did, please tell me. If not, tell me what you did do on break?
I went to the movies, mall, etc. Most of the time I hung out with my aunt & uncle.

3. When you look back at 2009, what do you think you will remember the most when you 225 years old? This can be worldly events, local things, personal achievements or events.
I will definatley remember all of the drama that has happened between my family.

Photos Of The Year 2009

This picture caught my eye because the colors make it pop out. The other thing in this picture that is appealing is the way it's in focus. You can't see what's going on in the background, just the flag.

I like this picture, because she's interacting with the "people." It looks like she's actually participating in what they're doing. She has put herself in the middle so it looks like she's taking part in what's going on.

The picture shows emotion & tells a story. Clearly, this man's house burns down. The lighting in the picture creates a spotlight on him in the kitchen that helps get his emotions or feelings across from the look on his face.
